Predictions in english Чемпионат Англии от BBC
Суббота, 03 Декабрь 2011

Newcastle v Chelsea Newcastle v Chelsea (1245 GMT)

This is a big game for both teams too. Newcastle were absolutely outstanding defensively in their draw against Manchester United last week, with players throwing their bodies in the way and their goalkeeper Tim Krul making some tremendous saves.

Because of that point at Old Trafford, there will an expectancy from the Newcastle fans and I think they are going to get another draw here.

I think they have been better this year when teams have come on to them, and I think Chelsea will come to St James' Park and push on. Chelsea are not as good a team as they were and they don't have that awesome power in midfield but I still think they will attack.

Chelsea played a weakened team in their Carling Cup defeat by Liverpool on Tuesday but, for me, the biggest thing for their manager Andre Villas Boas to decide on is who are his best strikers, and then just stick with them.

At the moment, he is changing his strikers for virtually every game and when you do that there is no way that your front two or three can get any kind of understanding going. Daniel Sturridge and Juan Mata should be in there but Villas Boas has to decide who else is going to play.

He has a few other problems to contend with as well, though, but we sort of knew that already. It is the end of the old guard at Stamford Bridge and Villas Boas has to get some new players in January. The team clearly needs a revamp and he should not be dumped before he gets the chance to carry it out.

It is getting to crunch time for Villas Boas, though, with Chelsea's next two games against Valencia in the Champions League and Manchester City in the Premier League both being so important.

I would hope that his future is not in trouble if results go against him in those games, but I think the football world will decide otherwise.

Prediction: 1-1

Match preview

Blackburn v Swansea Blackburn v Swansea

I'm really quite surprised that Blackburn chose to toss their Carling Cup tie away at Cardiff on Tuesday, and to hear their manager Steve Kean saying afterwards that there are bigger fish to fry in terms of the Premier League.

I find that a really strange thing to do when you really need to win a game to take the pressure off. Look at the way the Carling Cup has turned out now with two Championship teams in the semi-final - Rovers had a real chance of progressing and building up some confidence and I think it is a massive own goal by Kean.

There is not much goodwill left for him from the fans anyway and now he has just brought himself more aggro before this game, which is the last thing he needs.

I saw Swansea play Aston Villa last week and they are still playing some really nice stuff. But they didn't create any chances until Danny Graham went off and Leroy Lita came on.

The Swans will make the most of the big pitch at Ewood Park, and we know how well they keep the ball and move it around.

But I still feel teams can overpower them and I quite fancy Blackburn here because they are a big, strong team. And while they are short of quality they are definitely competitive and give 100%.

If they do win, it will look like Kean got it right on Tuesday but that's not going to be the reason for it.

Prediction: 2-0

Match preview

Man City v Norwich Man City v Norwich

Whenever Norwich have gone to the so-called big guns they have given everyone a game. So far they have done well at Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool, even if Anfield was the source of the only point.

They will go to Etihad Stadium and won't change their approach, but this is Manchester City we are talking about.

Roberto Mancini's side got away with a point at Anfield last weekend, but they changed their team completely to beat Arsenal in the Carling Cup on Tuesday. So, the lads from Sunday will be ready and they will be too strong for Norwich.

That will keep them ticking away nicely at the top of the Premier League but I cannot see them being in the Champions League beyond next week. I think they will beat Bayern Munich but Napoli will beat Villarreal, leaving City third in their group.

Prediction: 3-0

Match preview

QPR v West Brom QPR v West Brom

QPR were unhappy about their defeat by Norwich last week and WBA got well beaten at home by Tottenham. I'm pretty sure both of them will be happy with a point this time.

Rangers' home form has been a worry. It's because they don't get many goals at Loftus Road and also they are not very good at coping when teams counter-attack them. When the game is open, they make it too open at the back, and you feel teams can hit them for a few.

This game will be pretty tight, though. When Baggies boss Roy Hodgson suffers a defeat like the one against Spurs, he circles the wagons.

He will have been working on his defence this week, filling in the holes. Hodgson needs to get his attack working again too, though, and has been trying to get Peter Odemwingie fired up. He also needs to get Shane Long fit again as soon as possible.

Prediction: 1-1

Match preview

Tottenham v Bolton Tottenham v Bolton

Tottenham played another shadow side in the Europa League against PAOK Salonika, although the likes of Jermain Defoe and Luka Modric did play along with the kids.

Boss Harry Redknapp will unleash the beast against Bolton and, although I doubt Rafael van der Vaart will shake off his hamstring problem in time to play behind Emmanuel Adebayor, Modric and Defoe are obviously available. Redknapp has so many attacking options that it doesn't really matter.

Bolton are going from bad to worse and they are almost at rock bottom. What was a poor start to the season is becoming a crisis, and it's hard to see what manager Owen Coyle can do in January.

It is abundantly clear that Coyle has not replaced the goals from last season he lost when Daniel Sturridge went back to Chelsea and Johan Elmander left the club, and they have problems at the back too.

I cannot see them getting anything at White Hart Lane and, although their next three games between now and Christmas - at home to Aston Villa and then at Fulham and Blackburn - are more winnable, they have put massive pressure on themselves to get something from them.

Prediction: 3-1

Match preview

Wigan v Arsenal Wigan v Arsenal

Wigan had a cracking win against Sunderland last week, and I genuinely think the whole of football likes Latics boss Roberto Martinez and wants to see him do well.

Everyone appreciates how Martinez gets his team to play the game, and how he won't compromise that. He also showed his principles when he turned down the chance to take over at Aston Villa in the summer.

But I would not get too carried away with that Wigan win - Sunderland had lots of chances to win that game and the goal the Black Cats conceded at the end was a comedy of errors.

As for Arsenal, well if Robin van Persie turns up they will win. That's the way it works, isn't it?

Wigan had a cracking win against the Gunners a couple of years ago, when they won 3-2 in a real thriller but I cannot see them having any luck here.

This is an Arsenal team which is a completely different animal to the one which was struggling at the start of the season. Arsene Wenger has turned things round completely and he now has competition for places, which is the best thing you can have at a club because it does half the manager's job for him.

Prediction: 0-2

Match preview

Aston Villa v Man Utd Aston Villa v Man Utd (1730 GMT)

I'm a little bit disappointed in Aston Villa. I saw them against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium last weekend and I thought their approach was too 'safety first' for their own good, because they have got players in Darren Bent and Gabriel Agbonlahor who can win games.

Villa have lost James Milner, Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing and Ashley Young in the last couple of years and it seems that Alex Mcleish has arrived as manager and decided that, first of all, his side must be difficult to beat.

I do think McLeish is a good manager but he has to realise that in Bent he has a player who, if you give him chances in the box, will score. Agbonlahor is also reminding us how good he is.

What I am trying to say is that McLeish has to try to get the balance right between keeping things tight at the back and creating enough chances. At the moment, they are too defensive.

Manchester United will not resemble the team that started against Crystal Palace on Wednesday and ended up being sent tumbling out of the Carling Cup.

They are under a bit of pressure to win this one, because Manchester City will be expected to beat Norwich and United will not want to fall any further behind at the top of the table.

Their recent form is not the greatest but we should remember they outplayed Newcastle last weekend and had enough chances to win that game at a canter.

Prediction: 1-2

Match preview

Everton v Stoke Everton v Stoke

There will be another big Gary Speed tribute at Goodison Park and some of his old Everton team-mates will be appearing to lead the minute's applause before kick-off.

Stoke played in the Europa League on Thursday, which generally means they get beaten on the Sunday. After a bad run, the Potters were better in their win against Blackburn last week, although Rovers were very poor defensively in that game.

Prediction: 2-1

Match preview

Wolves v Sunderland Wolves v Sunderland (1600 GMT)

Wolves have been on a bad run, apart from that must-win game against Wigan a couple of weeks ago, which they did win. They will look at this as another important three points in their relegation fight.

In a perverse sort of footballing way, you normally see a really good reaction from teams straight after they have sacked their manager but I cannot see that working for Sunderland here.

Sunderland are beginning life without Steve Bruce and, if I were Black Cats owner Ellis Short, I would be battering Martin O'Neill's door down.

Mark Hughes is another name being mentioned and he is available but I do feel O'Neill would be a better choice. The thing with him is that he instantly reinvigorates your club - he is a great man-manager who gets players to try their best every week and that gets a reaction from the fans too.

Whoever takes charge, the Sunderland squad does not need an overhaul but it definitely needs a goalscorer.

They are one of several teams in the bottom half of the table that, if they had a decent striker, would be in the top half. There just seems to be a dearth of them in the top flight this season.

Sunderland have seen two leave in the last few months, with Darren Bent being sold to Aston Villa and Asamoah Gyan being loaned to Al Ain, but I totally understand why they let them go.

Every player has his price and I have no problems with them selling Bent for £24m. With Gyan too, they got a good price for him when he clearly wanted to go.

Both deals were a great bit of business - but only if they had brought someone else in. They are short up front and they cannot rely on people like Connor Wickham, who is a young lad learning in the Premier League. So, Sunderland need to find a striker from somewhere in January, otherwise they are in for a serious scrap at the bottom of the table.

Prediction: 2-1

Match preview

Fulham v Liverpool Fulham v Liverpool (2000 GMT)

I remember this fixture from the end of last season when Luis Suarez absolutely annihilated Fulham defenders Brede Hangeland and Aaron Hughes. He completely took them apart and Liverpool were 3-0 up within the first 20 minutes.

Losing Lucas Leiva for the season is a big blow for Liverpool but Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has got competition for places and strength in depth too.

We saw that in the win over Chelsea in the Carling Cup on Tuesday and I think Suarez's form means the whole club is on a high at the moment. Andy Carroll has not been convincing but Craig Bellamy and Suarez have hit it off, and so has Maxi Rodriguez.

They are busy and quick players who can play one-touch football and that has made a big difference to Liverpool.

Having said all that, Fulham are at home and they can be a bit of a handful themselves, and their strikers will cause Liverpool a few problems too.

If I lived in London and could have a season ticket to any team, I would go and watch Fulham. Everything about Craven Cottage is really good - there is no pressure on them to win, and the atmosphere is great because it is a proper old ground in a nice area where you can get a beer.

They are a club who knows what they are and where they are - and I can see them getting a point on Monday night.
