Coming off a complete game against Detroit where he allowed Nil earned runs (the one run that crossed the plate was charged as an error) just added to his already impressive start. Mussina is 7-1 this year with a 2.42 ERA. In his 12 starts this year, he has never allowed more than three earned runs, allowing two ERs or less in eight outings. Beckett's has pitched well early this season but has been less than stellar on the road where he sports a 5.77 ERA |
Despite the injuries to New York which are appearing as each series is played out, you have to give them credit. They have 10 hits or more in 10 consecutive games. The young lads have contributed offensively and have helped the Yankees defensively aswell. To be within half a game o! f their rivals Boston is a credit to the ball club.
If Boston don't get a lead of 6-8 wins over the zoo crew before the yankees get healthy again, they can kiss their season good-bye. The Yankees will want atleast a split from this series to remain with Boston and with Mussina, Wang, Johnson and Wright going to the hill they have every chance. They get the first win of the best of four tonight as Mussina keeps the Red Sox bats in check.
